Huduma ya Walemavu is focused on outreach activities, to reach people with disabilities within the community, to educate and treat them. They receive patients from different age groups, both male and female. Conditions mostly attended include Osteoflucrosis (bone deformity cased by excessive fouride in the water), Cerebral Palsy, Congenital deformities (ie: Clubfoot), Contractures (secondary to wound infections, burns and disease ie: polio) and others such as Stroke, Fractures, Spinal cord injury, Osteogenic Imperfecor and Achondroplasia. Huduma ya Walemavu serves rural Maasai villages sorrounding the Centre in the area of Monduli The care workers are overloaded and need assistance with the care that they are providing. Due to this shortage the patients are the ones who suffer and providing more qualified care givers it will alliveate these problems as well as share knowledge and techniques with the exisiting staff memebers. Volunteers must be of age 18 or above with minimum education of Post Grduation.
Volunteers with the following special skills are preferred for the placement:
- Physiotherapy
Volunteers can assist by doing following tasks:-
Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy or Orthopedic Technician work Interacting with and visiting the patients of all ages. Helping with the outreach clinic where visits to the local villages for assessments and follow up care take place. Assist with taking patients for hospital visits to Arusha.
