ASVO is a non-profit NGO which places volunteers in Costa Rica’s national parks and protected areas. ASVO’s objective is to improve the conditions and amount of volunteer work performed at a national and international level. It has 20 years of existence and works in projects all over Costa Rica. The objective is to involve the society with the enviromental issues. It has a tropical forest in transition to tropical rainforest. Due to its diversity and that is is one of the only places with these species in the Nicoya it is important its conservation and protection, area in which the volunteers can help. It is also important regarding the following: Protect one of the only places in transition to tropical rainforest that are in Costa Rica Monitor the different species of turtles that are in the beach of the refugee, in order to propose and develop strategies of conservation of these animals Develop permaculture activities Develop a construction and maintainance path program for public use and investigation Develop activities of environmental education in order to teach the local people how to take care of the resources and ecosystems.
Volunteers can assist by doing the following tasks:
Monitor the species of turtles that come to the beaches of Montezuma and playa Grande of the Romelia Refugee Signaling of the beaches and construction of the hatcheries of the sea turtles Project Construction and mantainance of the public paths and investigation for the Romelia Refugee. Maintanance of the infrastructures of the refugee Cleaning of the beaches Support the activities of the enviromental education Other tasks that you may be requested to preform outside of your core duties:
There is the possibility of staying in the Romelia project and teach English in the School of Montezuma which is 30 minutes walking and then be able to take part in the conservation project from time to time.
