La Posadita was created to serve abandoned children within Lima suffering from HIV. These children are at the La Posadita as their family cannot care for them any longer. In some cases finances is the reason(their families cannot afford to care for them any longer), in other cases the childrens parents are sick or have passed away from HIV themselves.
This is a home/clinic for abandoned children living with HIV. The home provides a positive and nurturing environment for these children so they can continue to live their lives in a healthy atmosphere and continue to receive medical treatment. Volunteers assist the staff to provide quality care and programming to the children living at La Posadita. La Posdita needs extra caring hands to help with this special children who may not be around for very long. A little goes a long way as playing games, organizing arts and crafts and taking the odd field trip to the pool or beach would bring much pleasure to these children. Bonding and attention is very important to these kids who have no parents in their lives.

Volunteers can assist by doing the following tasks:
Organizing games, helping out with drawing and crafts, painting murals, taking children on field trips, etc. The children love face painting, camp style games and dancing.

Volunteers with the following specific skills are preferred for this placement:
Child & Youth Worker

La Semilla (The Seed) is an organization that works mostly with children of low-income families. They noticed that many of the poorest children get the lowest grades in school, so most of their work is dedicated to improving the level of education among these children. They address this problem on many fronts: leadership building exercises, homework help, working with child labourers, teaching about health and hygiene, and also working with the mothers of these children. La Semilla works in several different slums, each with its own distinct characteristics. In Huachipa, much of the population has been displaced due to political violence. In Carabayllo, there is a large dump where there are many child labourers and the community faces health problems. In communities like these La Semilla works mainly with children of low-income families but also works with the mothers of these children
The program helps in improving schooling for children and adolescents who work and supports the prevention and progressive elimination of child labor, addressing the needs of education and protection for children and adolescents who work. An ongoing task is to prevent violence, abuse and exploitation while at the same time promoting in children a positive self-image, helping them to recognize their abilities and potential.

Volunteers can assist by doing the following tasks :

-Workshops for parents and teachers of child labourers

-Awareness campaigns on child labour

-Awareness and prevention campaigns on drugs, violence, abuse, sexual exploitation, child prostitution, STDs, and AIDS

-Provide emotional support

Other tasks that you may be requested to preform outside of your core duties:
Work on other La Semilla projects
Volunteers with the following specific skills are preferred for this placement:
HIV/AIDS Awareness Training
Child & Youth Worker

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Millennium Goals 4 & 5: Reduce Child Mortality & Improve Maternal Health

In Ghana, the means by which Millennium Development Goals Four and Five are targeted are often closely linked. For more than 50 years Salvation Army clinics across the country have provided medical help to see expectant mothers through their pregnancies before offering a safe and hygienic place in which they can give birth and get the medical help they need. The clinics then have the dual purpose of seeing the babies through the perilous early years while ensuring the new mothers keep well.

This organization serves expecting mothers seeking prenatal care, new mothers seeking antenatal and postnatal care, and newborn babies. The organization also offers outreach programs to markets and street people who may benefit from their services.

This placement needs volunteer as they have many children and not so many teachers, the children spend many hours and they need English lessons as well as recreational activities.

Volunteers can assist by doing the following tasks:
Help taking care of the children Teaching English Recreational activities with children

Other tasks that you may be requested to preform outside of your core duties:
Through the Salvation Army it is possible to work in other temporary projects that they have like working in rehabilitation, in a project about a butterfly garden that they are building in a prison, working with disabled persons, dining places for the homeless

Volunteers with the following specific skills are preferred for this placement:
Child & Youth Worker
Early Childhood Education
At-Risk Youth Work
Recreational Programming
Social Worker (BSW)
Social Work Student

This orphanage houses 29 children whose ages range from newborn to thirteen years of age. They also have a pre-school for the community and offer health services for kids, providing them with a pediatrician, nutritionist, and psychologist. Perhaps the most important role of this organization is providing the children with love and care not only for their physical needs but for their emotional needs as well.
This placement runs on a very small budget, and they can’t afford to pay employees’ vacation time, so by providing volunteers, employees can take their time off and the orphanage still has staff to care for the kids.

A volunteer in this placement can work in anything from taking care of the infants, playing with the toddlers and children, helping in the health unit, to attending to kids during meals and snack time. It will be a meaningful experience for both the volunteers and the children s/he is helping.

Volunteer can assist by doing the following tasks:
As with any other volunteer services with kids, this includes feeding, changing diapers, playing or teaching basic English to the older kids.

Other tasks that you may be requested to preform outside of your core duties:
You could help with mopping or sweeping up the floor, doing the dishes, laundry or doing some conservation work.

Volunteers with the following specific skills are preferred for this placement:

Aldeas SOS is a non-governmental organization with an emphasis on human rights for kids and adolescents. SOS Childrens Villages was founded in 1949 in Austria to provide a home for children who are no longer able to grow up with their birth families due to natural disaster, war and other catastrophic events. The organization now has homes in 132 countries world wide. Aldeas SOS came to Nicaragua after the 1972 earthquake to help the victims of this natural disaster which devastated our capital, Managua. In the last 35 years, the organization has extended into the other departments and now helps over 6,500 children cope with a variety of traumatic situations, offering protection and love so that they may have a brighter future.
They only can afford to have three staff members which means that when one person is cooking and another is busy with one child, one staff may be looking after all thge kids on their own. A volunteer could help with many tasks, especially filling in where needed and performing tasks such as changing diapers and feeding babies and/or playing with and teaching the older kids. Educational games and songs would be a wonderful addition, as well as any planned activities.

Volunteers can assist by doing the following tasks:
Organization of activities for the children; reading books, educational activities, games.

Other tasks that you may be requested to preform outside of your core duties:

Maranatha Beach Lodge is an eco-hotel, set on an idyllic strip of beach on an estuary between the Bay of Benin and the Volta Delta. The Lodge is designed to support and include the local community, providing funds for conservation and the overall sustainable development of this neighbouring village. Through our endeavours, we hope to educate travellers; promoting and engaging them with minority cultures and the natural beauty of West Africa. Kewunor Village is located in a very rural part of Ghana that is mostly undeveloped. The 750 residents live in small grass huts with sand floors. As there is river and ocean surrounding the village, water is a prominent aspect of village life.

Villagers commonly use the river to swim in, bathe, and wash clothing. The main industry in Kewunor is fishing and the fisherman are commonly in the water or in the boats heading to the sea. Unlike other parts of the world, these people do not have access to swimming lessons and the constant exposure to water and currents can be detrimental to their health if not properly educated. There are a few deaths that occur every year due to drowning (both adults and children).

This placement needs volunteers to come teach water safety. Swimming lessons and classroom teaching will be part of the volunteers duties. They will be working with the villagers in groups and also on a one to one basis. The volunteer’s actions will give the residents skills to be safer in the water, which may lead to less water-related injury and death.

Volunteer can assist by doing the following tasks:
Volunteers will be required to design their own swimming instruction classes. Swimming lessons can be arranged in the river by skill level, age, or on a one to one basis. The volunteer will be expected to teach for 3-4 hours per day. It is important that the volunteer is prepared to create their own lesson plans and evaluation systems. Of course, in country support will definitely be provided.

Volunteers will also be required to teach water safety classes. These topics can include rescuing, currents, hygiene, life guarding, drowning, boating, and ocean safety. These classes will be scheduled weekly with a variety of villagers. The villagers will be separated into groups based on age, skill level, or profession.

After a few recent drownings, the villagers are mostly concerned about improving their swimming skills and learning about ways to avoid emergencies. Any volunteers with experience in these areas are most welcome!

ther tasks that you may be requested to preform outside of your core duties:
Volunteers will be able to teach at Kewunor Village School, work with the village youth, work with the village women’s group, give health awareness presentations, start a music club, start an after school program for children, or can feel free to bring their own ideas to the placement! The village is very keen to have volunteers and innovative and unique ideas are most welcome!

Volunteers with the following specific skills are preferred for this placement:
Standard First-Aid
Health & Hygiene Training
Leadership Programming
Recreational Programming
Swim
Lifeguard
